The 28th Annual Mid-Pacific Institute (MPI) Alumni Association Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held starting at 10 a.m., July 19, at the Hawaii Prince Golf Course.

MPI alumni, students, parents, faculty and staff are invited to participate in the all-day event, as are their families and friends. The tournament also is open to the public.

“We’ll have a banquet after all the golfers come in where we’ll hand out awards and door prizes,” pointed out Kerry Gudoy, director of the MPI Alumni Association. “We usually hand out a trip to Vegas - that’s the biggest prize. But we’ll also be giving airline tickets and hotel stays and gift certificates.”

The first 192 players registering will be accepted for play. Check-in is at 10 a.m., with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. The format will be a three-person modified scramble.

“We are also going to be celebrating Mid-Pacific Institute’s 100th year in Manoa so we’ll be handing out T-shirts at the tournament to commemorate the anniversary,” Gudoy noted.

Proceeds from the tournament will be used for student scholarships at MPI, Gudoy said, adding that the event normally raises close to $24,000 each year.

MPI actually began 140 years ago as a school serving the children of missionaries. Today it provides a private, independent coeducational college preparatory education to Pre-K through 12th grade students. It also offers the Mid-Pacific Institute School of the Arts, a pre-professional program of dance, music, theatre, visual arts, musical theatre and media arts available in Hawaii and the South Pacific.
